Upcoming Release! Now ready for pre-order: A Room in Blake's Folly

If only the walls could speak…

In one hundred and fifty years, Blake's Folly, a silver boomtown notorious for its brothels, scarlet ladies, silver barons, speakeasies, and divorce ranches, has become a semi-ghost town. Although the old Mizpah Saloon is still in business, its upper floor is sheathed in dust. But in one room at a long corridor's end, an adventurer, a beautiful dance girl, and a rejected wife were once caught in a love triangle, and their secret has touched three generations.

“Luck was on my side…finally. The night was very dark. There was no moon, and no clouds. I heard them leave the house, I saw them, and I knew where they were, where they went. When I sensed the time was right, I crawled out from my hiding space, slid along the ground on my belly, just like a snake. Headed out to those hills in the far distance. Running away from all I’d ever known was terrifying, but I knew I wouldn’t survive otherwise.”

“We’re very far from Blake’s Folly.”

Her smile was slightly mocking. “My luck held. I saw a campfire. I didn’t know who was out there, but I headed for it. Three men were passing through the area—oh, I knew they were probably up to no good, cattle rustlers or bandits keeping to the shadows—but what choice did I have? They fed me, kept me with them as they traveled north. Then, a few weeks later, they left me in Blake’s Folly.”

She had used the word “luck” twice, and he admired her spirit, the optimism, and strength that had kept her alive, but he also knew what she was leaving out of the story.
